Projects Update - September 06

Not much to post on this week but I thought I would share progress on my two current building projects, Medieval Japan and Industrial Egypt. I’ve decided to focus at first on Japan because players look like they want it more than Egypt, even if the two projects are both in beta phase at the moment. So most probably, I will try install Japan first, then Egypt.

Medieval Japan: finished coding one of the major quests and started building up housing. Actually I’m halfway through housing and looking forward for it to be done by this week-end. I then need to work on responses for mobs, polish up a dozen mini-quests and add more fluff to the area. Also I might have to add lots more furniture items for housing than I had expected.

Indus Egypt: I need to polish up acts on the last boss mob for the group zone part of the area. As a reminder, this 100rooms area will include a 70rooms group zone (Khufu’s Pyramid) for high level characters. When this will be done, I will work on adding rooms for the city of Cairo.

Please keep in my mind that once I think an area is done, it is then tested by other immortals before it is installed. This usually takes a lot of time, esp for my projects because of my grammar skills and stuff J Then don’t try estimate an install date from these updates, you’d be fooled :)

Talk soon,

LegendMeet 2006

Last week-end I went to my first Legendmeet! It was really a blast to meet all these guys (even if the attendance could have been bigger) and it is really some special feeling to meet with 10 years old friends for the first time…

I flew in from Paris Airport to the city of Detroit in that country they call Michigan, err the United States. Passed the immigration and quickly met with my folks Huma and Somar (and Somar’s GF) who were waiting for me so we could all drive towards Pittsburgh. After Huma got us lost in the deep suburbs of Monroeville (blame the Spee-D owner – completely clueless guy) we met up with Straussy, Maloth and Sandra on the parking lot of that famous place, Primanti Brothers, where they serve sandwiches with a layer of fries and coleslaw :P

We had then some funny dinner and Sandra looked like she really enjoyed taking a picture of me where I would look the dumbiest possible… Thanks Pam! J

Then headed to the William Penn hotel where we had booked our room. Our first words when getting in the lobby were to say that this place really deserves more than one room in Legend – its really a massive place with some funny art-decoish lobby. Finally hit our room where I was sharing a bed with Huma and Somar was snoring like a baboon in that bed next to us. By 8am the next day I was fully awake (thanks jetlag) and decided to go get a breakfast and escape the snoring fest J

Ohh – and I also had my first baseball game that day! Huma explained the rules to me in like 10mins and the game lasted for like 3hours. Honestly, that game is just an excuse to eat fries and hotdogs, right? Next Legendmeet I will take you guys to a game of football* where 60.000 drunk English fans sing “We will F* you” on the air of Queen’s we will rock you, for like 2 hours J

Last day we all had a delicious BBQ at Sandra’s sister place where a huge and famished hellhound attacked me, leaping in my legs and showing his pointy teeth. It was very scarry. That doggy even tried to get a sip of my coke!

Anyway, awesome meet – has been kinda weird for me to fly over for 3 days just to share sandwiches with friends but you know that’s what LegendMud makes you do. Being a member of this community is really the experience of a lifetime – hope every reader of that post remembers or realizes it someday.

* I mean real football here guys.

Housing Plans for Japan

I started brainstorming on the housing capabilities in Japan as many players sent me feedback that it is a greatly expected feature for them.

So here’s what I have in mind and you can start commenting on the blog:

-          Basic Housing (Huts, Fishermen and Peasants homes). Available everywhere outside of towns, especially in villages. This will be non expandable housing for a minor cost.

-          Town Housing will be fully customizable homes with sliding doors, teahouses, reception rooms and inner gardens. These houses will be expensive though (Japan is a small land and ownership of a home was only reserved to nobles or rich merchants), up and down directions will not be available (no cellars for example)

-          Castles and fortress. Japan will have a small number of spots where players and clans will be able to build Japanese-styled castles. Only completion of important quests will flag a player as being able to build these.

-          Furniture vendor. I have already built a furniture vendor where you can buy Japanese-styled furniture for your housing needs (being based in Japan or not).

Stay tuned!

Clarification on Medieval Japan's Gameplay

I had announced on my old blog that MedJapan would be a 45+ area.

After discussing with Sandra and LadyAce, I decided to take back that statement and make Japan an area aimed at ALL characters, with a recommendation for 15+.

Technically the area will be accessible to L1 characters (no level check at all on entrance) but content will be addressing the 15+ folks especially because of some agg mobs that will be wandering in random places. You will want the extra hit points from the first 15 levels to escape them if needed.

That being said, very low level characters will have their share of mices and dogs once they know places to avoid…

Also, I want to confirm that all housing options will be available to any levels, even if some will require completion of preliminary quests to be able to use the build command successfully.

New Blog Provider

After loosing my IDs to log on my old blog, I decided to move on Blogspot which also allows me to publish from email more easily - hoping for at least a bimonthly (twice per month) update at a minimum! Stay tuned!
